i've been quite taken of late with engraving handwritten words - of mine, of other authors - into long narrow rectangles of sterling silver. there is something about the way that the written word looks when worn against the skin that takes my breath away. when seen from a distance, the words are not quite legible, and appear sometimes to look like tree branches, or chinese characters, full of portent and significance. when viewed up close, the words become focused and even more meaningful...
this wrap bracelet features an arched 2" long sterling rectangle, upon which i've hand engraved these words of J. Jerome: "Between us and the stars, there lies silence; and there in the stillness, let us listen to the voice that speaks within us". enough said.
i've hand knotted a beautiful sea-blue-green array of gemstones and pearls (aquamarine, chalcedony, peruvian opal, moss aquamarine, pearls) with silk cord and a small disc of precious metal clay silver, accented with a double strand of soft deerskin leather; tied into the leather is one of my sterling compass charms (yes, it actually works). total length of the bracelet measures 22", and is adjustable thanks to the sterling chain extension.
