I made this pretty brooch with an authentic vintage celluloid flat cabochon made in Japan in the 1950's. This is a very beautiful piece that really makes a statement! It measures about 1 1/4" or 40mm across and 1 1/4 or 32mm tall.
The detail on this piece is amazing! Celluloid was often referred to as "ivorine" because of its ability to mimic ivory. It is highly moldable and was used during the wartime to make a wide array of jewelry and household items. Today, you see a lot of replications of these gorgeous old cabs, all made with plastic and missing so much of the old character and detail!
I attached a silver pin backing to this vintage cabochon to make a unique brooch. This looks especially nice on delicate clothing. The last two photos show how you can wear this pin in two different directions.
